1985 'Beaumont' Kit

Aaron Alter, our show organizer and event coordinator, was busy one weekend filling an already packed summer with events and scheduling a revolving list of car shows across south Texas that we were sponsoring or attending. He was speaking to the show organizer in Beaumont, TX when he motioned me in.

Aaron: "Hey Thomas. These guys in Beaumont really want to see a Trans Am Supercar."

Thomas: "well, we are already overbooked and the last thing I want to do now is to try and get one put together for a show that's less than 4 weeks away."

That was the last I heard about the event for a week, when Aaron came to me again: "Hey, those guys up in Beaumont really want a Trans Am. They said they'll make us the star attraction, block off an entire street for us, best seat in the house."

I thought about it for a minute, thinking it was a VERY unrealistic timeline, with the show 3 weeks away. If they wanted it that bad,....: "OK, get the car and myself on TV and in the paper, we will sponsor the event and be the star attraction. Get me that and they can have a Trans Am Supercar."

Now, I've stuck my foot in my mouth once or twice,... never did I expect them to be able to meet my demands, and certainly not to the extent they did.: "OK Thomas, we got over 25 radio and TV stations coming, I already sent over press kits and BK Automotive's star car is in papers all across south Texas. They tell me people are really excited and cant wait to see it in person."

Great, less than 3 weeks until a show that now half of the (very large) state of Texas expects us to attend with bells on for radio and TV spots with a finished car.

Well, in the 2nd most horrible deadline of my career, 2 weeks, 2 days and a handful of hours later, we had a Trans Am ready to go. Completely functional and display ready. And we were lucky enough to come in just under the wire, no assembly on the trailer :)

The car we used was a V6 hardtop. The dash was a 2tv dash with electronics, ran from an alternate power source located in the hatch area.

**Note to those who do not know, when attending a car show, do not TOUCH, LICK, SIT ON or certainly SIT IN the show cars, especially the one with the film crew surrounding it in the middle of the street... Just because the doors are unlocked does not mean it is OK. The keys happened to be in it too, doesn't mean I wanted anyone to take it for a spin.... and you should have seen the size of the woman who did not know this little piece of car show etiquette, wow. I thought the shocks would give out. I stepped away for a moment and then hear the car calling for help! :) **
